Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. It creates opportunities to learn new skills, build friendships, develop confidence and enjoy time outdoors. However, for many young girls, taking that first step into golf can sometimes feel like a challenge.
The Girls On Course programme at Castlegregory Golf Links has been created to help change that by providing girls aged 10–17 years with the opportunity to experience golf in a fun, friendly and welcoming environment.
Supported through Golf Ireland’s Girls On Course initiative, the programme aims to introduce more girls to the game and show them that golf is a sport where everyone can belong, regardless of experience or ability.
Whether a participant has never picked up a golf club before or has already started playing, the focus is on enjoyment, learning and building confidence. Through simple games, activities and coaching, girls will develop their golfing skills while also discovering the social side of the game.
Golf offers so much more than learning how to hit a ball. It encourages concentration, resilience, decision-making and communication, while providing a positive environment where friendships can grow.
As a PGA Professional, Adrian Whitehead believes that introducing young people to golf in the right way is key to creating a lifelong connection with the sport.
"Golf should be accessible, enjoyable and welcoming for everyone. The first experience someone has with the game can shape how they see golf in the future, and programmes like Girls On Course are a fantastic opportunity to create positive experiences from the very beginning."
The five-week programme at Castlegregory Golf Links will provide girls with the chance to learn the fundamentals of the game, develop new skills and enjoy being part of a group in a relaxed and supportive setting.
No previous golf experience is required, and golf clubs can be provided for those who need them.
The future of golf depends on encouraging new generations to discover the game, and initiatives like Girls On Course play an important role in making sure more girls have the opportunity to get involved.
We look forward to welcoming girls to Castlegregory Golf Links and helping them begin their own journey in golf.
